In June of 2001, I had a near fatal car accident that broke all the bones from my armpits to my shins. I was in the operating room being prepped to have both my legs removed when the chief of surgery came in and decided to try and save them. My hope of ever walking again was not very good at best. Well, I beat the odds! I checked out Slidell Athletic Club and felt it was a good fit. When I wanted to quit, their words of encouragement and support kept me going. I really don't think these instructors and trainers know just how much they impact our lives! For the first time in 10 years, I can sit cross-legged, jump, balance on one leg and I no longer fall down all the time. Small for some, but HUGE for me. Another plus is that I went from a size 11 to a size 6 by hitting the circuit training and the abs section. Oh, and did I mention all this has happened in a 4 month period? AMAZING!!!!!! Terri Olson
I would like to express my appreciation for the way [I was] reconditioned me after my recent tour to Iraq. I was stationed in a remote location where physical fitness conditioning, particularly open air cardio conditioning, was too dangerous to conduct. Therefore, after a lengthy tour my fitness deteriorated. Through my membership at Slidell Athletic Club, I spent six weeks working with Kodi Martin, my personal trainer, on my various muscle groups, a cardio routine as well as my nutrition habits with an occasional motivational phone call or text message. My trainer showed genuine concern for my progress and development. As result, I was able to easily pass my Army Physical Fitness Test. Rodney S. McKelroy, Jr., Lieutenant Colonel, U.S. Army Reserves

Slidell Athletic Club is the Place to Start! My husband and I were in our mid 80's and we joined the Slidell Athletic Club in December 2006. When we first joined the Club, I had to have a walker or walking cane to assist my walking and balance. After 10 months of exercise with the Silver Sneakers group, I am walking without a cane and have much better balance. I think I have better health because of the Silver Sneakers classes. They showed us how to achieve muscle strength and joint flexibility. |
