Ander Herrera is approaching a stunning return to his former side Athletic Club Bilbao.

The Paris Saint-Germain midfielder is set to reunite with his former side but the details of the deal are still up for debate.

Yesterday, reports surfaced online that Herrera had had his contract terminated by the French champions, but that doesn’t appear to be the case.

L’Equipe journalist Loic Tanzi has confirmed there is confusion over whether Hererra’s contract has been terminated, as previously reported, and the club are now considering a loan deal with Athletic Bilbao.

sportskeeda also confirmed that a loan agreement is being negotiated with an option to purchase. Herrera has two years left on his contract but has fallen out of favor at the French club. He is yet to make an appearance for PSG this term and made just 19 appearances for the club last term.

A homecoming for Ander Herrera

Herrera’s proposed move to Bilbao will support a sensational comeback for the player. The midfielder was born in Bilbao and played for the club for three years before Manchester United signed him.

He made 128 appearances and scored 20 goals for the team before leaving for England. He also played under Ernesto Valverde at Bilbao in the 2013/2014 season. Valverde recently returned to manage the team again.

PSG terminate former Manchester United midfielder’s contract

Earlier, sports briefs reported that Paris Saint-Germain have terminated Ander Herrera’s contract with two years remaining.

Herrera joined the French giants in 2019 on a free transfer when his contract with Manchester United expired.

According to Sportbible, United weren’t keen on parting ways with him back then, especially given the impact he had on the team during his time at the club.
