Edinburgh Athletic Club runner proves to be Britain’s best

He finished third overall in a thrilling grandstand sprint at the popular ‘Round The Houses’ 10km road race – held in Grangemouth for the first time since 2019. Nearly 500 runners took part took part in an event that doubled as the British Masters 10k Championships and the Scottish Championships Eastern District 10k Championships.

Whitaker had the backing of John Lenehan, Myles Bax and Leon Johnson to clinch both tag team titles. On a great day for the capital club, Lenehan and Johnson also won individual medals in the age category.

Teammates Sue Ridley, Karen Dobbie and Elaine Davies all excelled and won individual age group medals. With the support of Sharyn Ramage, the capital club’s women’s team also won the V45 team gold medals.

In grueling conditions, the fast and difficult road race ended under the main stand of the city’s athletics stadium. Edinburgh Athletic Club athletes excelled across all age categories in the final results, winning a number of national and district medals.

Next up for Edinburgh Athletic Club athletes on the road racing calendar is the Scottish 5k Championship. Held on Edinburgh’s Cramond Promenade, this prestigious event always attracts a huge group of top quality athletes. The races will start at the Boardwalk café on Friday May 6 at 7:30 p.m.
