Hampton University to join Colonial Athletic Association in July

HAMPTON ROADS — The Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) announced Jan. 25 that Hampton University has accepted an invitation to join the conference on July 1, 2022.

Hampton University was among a small group of universities that accepted invitations to participate in the conference. The other two schools are Monmouth University and Stony Brook University.

The three new additions to the CAA bring the conference to 12 members in 2022-23:

  • College of Charleston (Charleston, SC)
  • University of Delaware (Neward, Delaware)
  • Drexel University (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania)
  • Elon University (Elon, North Carolina)
  • Hofstra University (Hempstead, NY)
  • University of North Carolina Wilmington (Wilmington, North Carolina)
  • Northeastern University (Boston, Mass.)
  • Townson University (Townson Md.)
  • William & Mary (Williamsburg, Virginia)
  • Hampton University (Hampton, Virginia)
  • Monmouth University (West Long Branch, NJ)
  • Stony Brook University (Stony Brook, NY)

These additions to CAA mean that Hampton University and Monmouth University will join the College of William & Mary (W&M) in CAA Football. The additions bring the number of CAA Football members to 13. The CAA Football roster for 2022-23 is as follows:

  • University of Delaware (Newark, Delaware)
  • Elon University (Elon, North Carolina)
  • University of Maine (Orono, Maine)
  • University of New Hampshire (Durham, NH)
  • University of Rhode Island (Kingston, RI)

  • Stony Brook University (Stony Brook, NY)
  • Townson University (Townson, Maryland)
  • Villanova University (Villanova, PA)
  • William & Mary (Williamsburg, Virginia)
  • Hampton University (Hampton, Virginia)
  • Monmouth University (West Long Branch, NJ)

Mann said in a press release. “As a group, they strengthen our league membership – and bring a shared commitment to athletic and academic excellence. We are also grateful to W&M President Katherine A. Rowe who was instrumental throughout the process and continues to be a great partner for athletics.
