Iñigo Martínez returns to the squad with Athletic
Good news for Marcelino ahead of this Saturday’s visit to Villarreal. Iñigo Martínez, one of the pillars of the rojiblanca defense axis, returns to training with the rest of the team with absolute normality. Dani García, another of the absentees in recent days, also seems to be improving gradually.
Iñigo Martínez’s injury occurred in early March against Levante at San Mamés. The Atletico centre-back put his hand on the back of his right thigh and asked for the change. The medical report provided by the Ibaigane entity summarized the mishap as “an overload of the hamstring muscles of his right leg”.
Although at first it seemed that the problem was minor, the truth is that the rojiblanco defender missed three league games, with a break in between, and even concentration and the two friendlies with Spain because of this misadventure. Last week, he went for a run outside of Lezama, but he couldn’t join the group because he kept sending him mild discomfort in the damaged area.
Athletic itself, despite the fact that the formation of the lions had a behind-closed-doors character, today took on the task of confirming the improvement in its defense. “Iñigo Martínez ends the session with the rest of his teammates,” reads the Twitter message issued by Ibaigane.
Marcelino will also be able to use Yeray’s services at Villarreal. The right-handed centre-back missed last Sunday’s game against Elche at San Mamés due to an accumulation of bookings. Dani García, with pubic problems, and Lekue, with “muscle injury to the rectus femoris of the right thigh”, continue their respective recovery plans. The first of them worked last week with the rest of his teammates with a series of precautions, but in the end he did not enter the call.
