TALENTED young sports stars flew the Inverclyde flag at a high profile national event last weekend.

A group of 11 youngsters from Inverclyde Athletic Club took part in the SUPERteams under 12s competition at the Emirates Stadium in Glasgow.

Organized by Scottish Athletics, the event sees determined young athletes from across Scotland compete in a series of challenges.

Young athletes from Inverclyde competed in the 60m sprint, long jump, shot put and 4 x 200m relay.

The students involved were Olivia Law, Cara McDougall, Stella Hurrell, Nuala Munro, Eve Buchanan, Eilidh Grieve, Amelia Shand, Leah Kane, Shane Devlin, Matthew Gerrard and Charlie Lyne.

The schools represented were Moorfoot, St Ninian’s, Ardgowan, Aileymill, All Saints and Wemyss Bay.

Inverclyde Athletic Club coach Janice Hendrie, Kim Law and Jonathan Cameron were the team managers that day.

Janice said the youngsters loved participating in the event.

She added: “It was a great day and the atmosphere was fantastic.

“It was a great experience for them.

“It made us realize how many competitions we have missed over the past two years.

“It’s good to get the momentum back.”
