Can Athletic Club make a late charge on the table and crash into the European places?
Last time out, the Lions couldn’t draw 1-1 with Getafe at home, thanks to Yuri Berchiche’s equaliser.
It means Marcelino’s men have won just two of their last six games and therefore remain eighth, four points below the potential European places.
Over the past 12 months Athletic have been an incredible cup side, winning the Supercopa de España last year before reaching this season’s final.
Besides, they appeared in two Copa del Rey finals last April before traveling to Valencia in the Copa semi-finals last month.
Despite that, they still haven’t played in UEFA competition since 2017/18 and that must change and soon.
Meanwhile, Elche start the weekend 14th in the table and would be delighted if they finished anywhere near that position.
Francisco’s side lost 1-0 to Valencia a fortnight ago but, before that, they had won five of their first ten games in 2022.
Victories over Espanyol, Villarreal, Alavés, Rayo and Granada have seen los Franjiverdes move away from danger to currently sit six of the bottom three.
So it won’t be easy but Athletic Club should still win at San Mamés.
Athletic Bilbao team news

Athletic are somewhat short of centre-backs with Yeray Álvarez suspended, due to an accumulation of yellow cards, while Iñigo Martínez is injured.
So Dani Vivian, who scored a header in the recent Basque Derby, will likely be paired with Unai Núñez.
Up front, Iñaki Williams will continue to lead the line having played 224 successive La Liga games.
News from the Elche team

Johan Mojica was sent off in Elche’s loss to Valencia and is therefore suspended, meaning Lucas Olaza is set to come on at left-back.
Lucas Boyé will remain their main goal threat, partnered with Ezequiel Ponce who will continue to get the green light on Guido Carrillo.
