Manchester United Women sign Spanish striker Lucia Garcia from Athletic Club

Manchester United Women have signed Spanish striker Lucia Garcia from Athletic Bilbao on a two-year deal, the Women’s Super League side announced on Monday.

The 23-year-old has scored 63 goals in 161 appearances over the past six years for the Spanish side and will strengthen United’s attacking ranks following the arrival of former Tottenham Hotspur striker Rachel Williams earlier this month.

“To have a club the size of Manchester United trust me is a dream come true. I already feel very good here,” said Garcia, who made his Spain debut in 2018 and scored nine goals in 36 Games.

“There is a great family atmosphere at the club, which is the exact environment in which I thrive. I will give everything I have on the pitch to make our fans proud, and I hope to score some goals as well. “

Garcia was part of the Spanish squad that reached the quarter-finals of Women’s Euro 2022 before being knocked out by England in extra time.

United finished fourth in the WSL last season and will start the new campaign on September 11 with a trip to Spurs.
