Newark Athletic Club’s Jan Bailey crowned National Champion at Masters Meet

Newark Athletic Club’s Jan Bailey was crowned national champion in the 1500m V45 at the Masters Athletics Championship in Derby.
With the rest of the team 50 miles from Doncaster competing in their local league, Jan did them proud by taking first place.
In a close final, Jan raced to victory with a final lap of 65 seconds.

Newark Athletic Club’s Jan Bailey was crowned national champion in the 1500m V45 at the Masters Athletics Championship in Derby.
With the rest of the team 50 miles from Doncaster competing in their local league, Jan did them proud by taking first place.
In a close final, Jan raced to victory with a final lap of 65 seconds.

At the second Northern League athletics meeting in Doncaster, the event was plagued by windy conditions.

There was success in the men’s 1500m with Ed Buck winning race A in 4-11.6 and Conor Pacey first in race B in 4-18.4

Oliver Crampton finished second in the men’s 5000m A 17-05 while David Robinson won the B race 17-52.
In the men’s 100, Tom Coverley was seventh in Race A in 12.40 seconds and Geoff Gregory third in Race B in 13.60 seconds.

Coverley was also seventh in Race A of the men’s 200m in 24.80 seconds with Adam Taylor third in Race B in 25.30 seconds.

In the men’s 400, Joseph Monk was seventh in Race A in 59.10 seconds and Chris Elmer fifth in Race B in 62.50.

Jack Robinson and Adrian Dix made their debuts in the 3,000m steeplechase, finishing 11-19 and 12-15 respectively.

In the long jump; Tom Coverley jumped five meters 20 centimeters while in the high jump, Tim Bagguley reached one meter 40 centimeters.

Geoff Gregory jumped 10.05 meters in the triple jump.

Craig Rodwell was fifth in the shot put with a throw of 8.82 metres, third in the discus (31.27 metres) and third in the hammer (30.1 metres)

Tim Bagguley and Geoff Gregory scored points in the javelin (20.90 meters and 19.42 meters)

In the relays, the men’s 4x100m finished third and fifth in the 4x400m
There were only a few female athletes representing the club at the event, but they put up a good showing.
Zoe Smith performed well in the sprints finishing third in the 100m in 13.10 and second in the 200m in 26.50.
Rebecca Gallop finished second in the 1,500m in 5-04
Newark finished sixth in the league.
