Notfast, Newark Striders and Newark Athletic Club hold multi-club race ahead of Newark Half Marathon

Three clubs and 60 runners came together to build team spirit ahead of the Newark Half Marathon.

Members of Notfast, Newark Striders and Newark Athletic Club organized a multi-club race to discuss half marathon plans, work on their fitness and build community spirit.

Event organizer Peter Davis said he was pleased with the turnout.

“It was about seeing each other, building minds and hanging out,” he said.

“We had a five, seven, nine and 13 mile variation of routes so there was no serious competitive nature.

“Some used it to capitalize on their time in the half marathon and for others it was just about getting going again.”

Davis said the build-up to this year’s 13.1-mile race in Newark – which returns after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic – had been promising.

“We’ve had 250 attendees so far, way more than we expected for this time of year,” he said.

“With the race being in the summer, there are holidays to take into account and things like that, so we are seeing a late increase in bookings closer to the time.

This year’s race takes place on Sunday, August 14.
