Riverhead High School Wins State Athletic Association “School of Excellence” Award
Riverhead High School has won the School of Excellence Award for the 2021-22 school year from the New York State Public High School Athletic Association, the Riverhead Central School District announced Friday.
To achieve Excellence School status, a school must have at least 75% of its varsity-eligible programs and receive the New York State Public High School Athletic Association’s Scholars-Athletes Team Award, according to the ‘association. To qualify, 75% of high school college programs must have a GPA of 90 or higher for 75% of the team. At Riverhead High School, 92% of high school varsity teams have a GPA of 90 or higher, the district said.
The teams whose student-athletes contributed to this award were, according to the district’s announcement:
Cheerleading, boys’ and girls’ cross-country, field hockey, football, golf, boys’ and girls’ soccer, girls’ tennis and volleyball.
Girls basketball, bowling, cheerleading and indoor athletics for boys and girls.
Baseball, girls’ golf, boys’ and girls’ lacrosse, softball, boys’ tennis, and boys’ and girls’ outdoor athletics.
