The Alpine A110 Légende GT: an agile and athletic sports car

Alpine has been busy, says Richard Lane on AutoCar. The arrival of its new A110 Légende GT may seem like a small event compared to its membership in Formula 1 and its commitment to become an exclusively electric brand. Yet at £ 59,410, the limited edition A110 Legend GT, of which only 400 will be made, is the most expensive Alpine yet – and ‘it’s worth discussing’. Billed as the A110 you would choose for touring, the Legend GT features a 1.8-liter turbo engine producing 249 hp and a top speed of 155 mph.

This latest iteration of the A110 has been improved throughout, Sean Carson explains on AutoExpress. The upholstery is more luxurious, the upholstery has been tweaked, and it looks more elegant overall. Parking sensors, a rear view camera and a seven-inch touchscreen with GPS were also installed. “Glossy carbon fiber trim” designates Legend GT status. It feels like “the most upscale and expensive Alpine to date”, but remains “a thoroughbred sports car, and brilliant to boot”. Ride quality is “better than you might have imagined from a low-slung mid-engined two-seater,” gliding effortlessly over bumps in the road “that would send a choppy noise” through other cars. It sprints from 0 to 100 km / h in 4.5 seconds, with “typical boosted whistles” of the turbo. It’s “not the most melodious engine, and it’s quite noisy,” which can wear out over a long drive, but despite its flaws, “the A110 is a sports car through and through.”

Where the car really shines is in the way it behaves, according to What Car magazine. “It’s full of feel and allows the nose to be positioned with millimeter precision… it feels balanced and athletic like a ballet dancer, and makes the Jaguar F-type and Toyota Supra look heavyweight in comparison.” It’s certainly not cheap, but “it’s one of the most entertaining and rewarding cars you can buy, regardless of the price.” It’s a “great little sports car,” agrees Ollie Kew in Top Gear, and one that you could live with every day. But if you want one of the 400 available, “you’ll have to be as quick and nimble as the car itself to secure it.”
