Weekend Preview: August 18, 2022




RICHMOND, Va. (August 18, 2022) – The 2022-23 Colonial Athletic Association season kicks off Thursday with 10 women’s soccer competitions to open the fall sports calendar.

Women’s football

The 2022 campaign begins with 10 games on Thursday including six home openers on FloFC. In two 6 p.m. games, Stony Brook will make his CAA debut when he hosts Fordham and William & Mary hosts a visit from ACC member Virginia Tech. Four more seasons kick off on FloFC at 7 p.m. when Charleston hosts Alabama A&M, Elon hosts the American, defending CAA champion Hofstra takes on Fairleigh Dickinson, and Delaware takes on Delaware State in a Route 1 battle. Four more teams start the year on the road with CAA preseason favorites UNCW heading to Queens for the Royals’ Division I debut (6 p.m., YouTube), Towson heading to DC to face Howard (7 p.m.), Drexel in Baltimore to face Loyola Maryland (7 p.m., ESPN+), and Northeastern makes the trip across town to play Boston University (7 p.m., ESPN+).

Monmouth travels to Lehigh on Friday (7 p.m., ESPN+) for its first game as a CAA member before a 10-game schedule on Sunday. The 1 p.m. kick collection is highlighted by UNCW’s visit to North Carolina No. 10 (1 p.m., ACCNX), while Northeastern continues its quest for Beanpot football by hosting Boston College (1 p.m., FloFC), Delaware visits Villanova (1 p.m., FloFC), William & Mary take a trip to George Washington (1 p.m., ESPN+), and Drexel heads to the Thruway to face Marist (1 p.m., GoRedFoxes .com). Stony Brook takes on Bryant at Ocean State (2 p.m., AE.tv) and Monmouth hosts UAlbany for its home opener (2 p.m., FloFC) ahead of a three-game Sunday night slate at home on FloFC: Howard at Elon (4 p.m.), Coastal Carolina at Charleston (7 p.m.), and La Salle at Towson (7 p.m.)

Next weekend will mark the start of men’s soccer, volleyball and field hockey in CAA. Previews of the opening weekends for these sports will be available in next Thursday’s weekend preview.
