West Cheshire AC at Chester Walls Race
Six members of the West Cheshire Athletic Club took to glory in the Chester Round The Walls race.
Neil Finegan, Steve Fernyhough, Henry Robinson, Jodi Bemand, Rosemary Rogers and Mary Radford all finished first in their age categories in their club’s 6km Boxing Day event at Chester Racecourse which took place attracted 407 finishers.
Finegan and Fernyhough took top prizes in the men’s over 45 and over 40 with times of 22:28 and 23:32 respectively.
Robinson and Bemand were the first men under 20 and women under 20 in 24:01 and 30:41.
While Rogers and Radford took top prizes of the over 70 and over 75 women with times of 37:21 and 49:33.
Daniel Cliffe, representing Hercules Wimbledon AC, clocked 20 minutes 34 seconds to win the men’s race, ahead of Buckley Runner duo Ben Biggs and Sam Bellis who clocked 20:50 and 21:47 for second and third positions respectively.
Chester-based Carol Parsons, competing for the Cheshire Dragons, posted 24h12 to win the women’s title, ahead of runner-up Sarah Hunter (Ackworth Road Runners) in 24h46, and Kate Titlow (West Cheshire AC) in third place with 25 : 53.
Other West Cheshire AC finishers included Tom Booth (fifth overall in 22:09), Dan Thwaites (27:29), Kerry Riley (sixth lady in 27:35), Neil Field (29:48), Brian Wright (second above – male 65 in 30:39), Phil Howe (34:27), Georgina Duffey (third lady under 20 in 34:22), Henrietta Duffey (fourth lady under 20 in 34:30), Phil Gent (36:39), Mark Povey (38:16) and Alex Duffey (39:24).
Michael Young of West Cheshire AC posted 32:52 for the 66th place finish in the 10k road race from Ribble Valley to Blackburn on Monday.
Upcoming matches include the Cheshire Cross Country Championships at Pickmere, Knutsford on Saturday January 8th.
Carol Parsons and Daniel Cliffe take first place
Daniel Cliffe and Carol Parsons celebrated their success at the Chester Round The Walls Race.
The duo completed the 6km Boxing Day match hosted by the West Cheshire Athletic Club which brought together 407 finishers at Chester Racecourse.
Cliffe, representing Hercules Wimbledon AC, clocked 20:34 at the finish line, ahead of Buckley Runner duo Ben Biggs and Sam Bellis who clocked 20:50 and 21:47 for second and third positions respectively, while Craig Fishwick (Hallamshire) was fourth in 22:06, and Tom Booth (West Cheshire AC) was fifth in 22:09.
Chester-based Parsons competing for the Cheshire Dragons posted 2412 to win the women’s title, far ahead of finalist Sarah Hunter (Ackworth Road Runners) in 2446, and Kate Titlow (West Cheshire AC) was third in 25: 53, while Sharon Johnstone (Wilmslow) was fourth in 27:10, and Alison Cole (Cheshire Dragons) was fifth in 27:29.
Other local finishers included Neil Finegan of West Cheshire AC (6th in 22:28), Steve Fernyhough (15th in 23:32) and Henry Robinson (19th in 24:01), Craig Connor (Tattenhall Runners), seventh in 22: 33, Jonathan Girvan (Chester), ninth in 22:39, Jez Brown of Buckley (18th in 23:56).
Kerry Riley of West Cheshire AC was sixth lady in 27:35, ahead of Emma Collins of Denbigh (seventh in 28: 145), Anna Woolgar and Rachel Hollins of Chester Tri (eighth and ninth in 28:20 and 29:06) and Jodi Bemand (West Cheshire AC) who finished first in the under 20 women in 30:41.
