The WHITE City Stars Athletics Club will host an Open Track Championship on October 9 at White City Stadium in Bulawayo, its first event since its inception.

The academy was created by veteran athletics administrator Manuel Mpofu in 2019, but has been largely inactive due to strict Covid-19 lockdown measures last year until they were relaxed a few weeks ago.

“The idea behind this academy is to nurture and prepare talents and expose them to the world of competition. Athletes will be assisted in obtaining scholarships. We also want to help less privileged but talented athletes with resources (tuition fees), ”Mpofu said.

He is delighted that the club is now organizing its own activities.

“We wanted to host this event in June, but due to the strict lockdown we pushed it back. We are delighted to be back on the track. It’s a project we’ve been working on for a while now and it’s good to see it take off.

Athletes will compete in 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, Mile, 5,000m, 10,000m and relay.

Registration fees are set at $ 300 per event per athlete for seniors and $ 200 per event for a junior athlete, with relay teams paying $ 500. – @innocentskizoe
