Review 2018-19: 12-10

Kindreek Williams is entering his second year as head coach of the Lady Highlanders and will be supported by juniors Chanelle McDonald (6-2 power forward) and Ahsiyah Williams (5-8 guard / forward).

McDonald’s is attracting interest from Holy Cross, Chicago State, and Auburn, among others. First-year point guard Jameira Robinson will likely be one of the main ball managers for a relatively young but athletic team.

“We have a lot of girls who are tall and long,” said Williams, who took over after seven years with the college junior program. “But we’re not as fast as I would like so we’re looking to defend better this year, which makes it difficult for other teams to get into the paint.”

McDonald – who returns as the team’s top scorer and rebounder with 14.3 points and 5.1 boards per game in his sophomore – is also expected to be the team’s top rebounder, assisted by Danshelle Mickel.

“She’s a really good shooter. She’s got a really good jump shot, shots from 16 to 18 feet, she can knock them down,” said Williams. “We’re still working on her post-up moves and how to determine when to take advantage of a smaller player. But she’s going to be a great post player for us.”
